The Department of Public Works and Highways – Samar First District Engineering Office (DPWH-SFDEO) is forging partnership with Northwest Samar State University (NwSSU), wherein SFDEO will serve as Host Training Establishment (HTE) for the University’s architecture students.

District Engineer Alvin A. Ignacio has penned a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with the University President, Dr. Benjamin L. Pecayo, along with the Dean of the College of Engineering and Technology, Dr. Romeo B. Santos, and the College OJT Coordinator, Engr. Joseph Marian B. Romano.

As HTE, Samar 1st DEO will provide practical training as well as supervise the applied learning experience for the student interns, in accordance to the agreed internship plan and schedule of activities. Among the target outcomes of the immersive learning process is the development of skills and work ethics of the soon-to-be professionals.

The agreement ensures the skills and competency of the interns will match industry needs.

Data from the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) shows notable employment growth in the construction sector in 2018, wherein 468,000 jobs were generated under President Rodrigo Duterte’s flagship Build, Build, Build program. According to DOLE, this upshot trend will continue during and even after infrastructures are built under the program.

As the architects of the future, these students will be working in synergy with the country’s engineers to build safe, sound, environment-friendly and aesthetically pleasing infrastructures that will uplift the standard of living and quality of life of the entire Filipino community.

SFDEO considers this new partnership with NwSSU as a golden opportunity for shaping the future industry workers of our country.
