The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) recently completed road improvement projects leading to two (2) emerging tourist destinations in the landlocked province of Quirino, Cagayan Valley Region.

DPWH Secretary Mark A. Villar said that two (2) road concreting projects which were implemented in the amount P70 million now provide easy access to Quirino’s Aglipay Caves in Aglipay Town and Governor’s Rapids in the municipality of Maddela.

“This summer season, travellers who plan to explore Aglipay Caves which showcases 37 interlinked underground chambers and witness the beauty of Governor’s Rapids featuring its crystal clear waters and towering limestone formation can utilize well-paved roads with signages, pavement road markings, drainage and slope protection structures,” said Secretary Villar.

The project leading to Aglipay Caves covers the concreting of a 1.32 kilometers local road costing P20 million while the tourism road project leading to Governor’s Rapids involves the concreting of a 1.08-kilometers local road with provision of drainage and slope protection structures costing P50 million.

Both projects were implemented by the DPWH – Quirino District Engineering Office (DPWH-QDEO) under the Convergence and Special Support Program in partnership with the Department of Tourism (DOT).
