DPWH-6 joins Mangrove Planting

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Regional Office VI participated in a mangrove-planting activity held April 10, 2019 at Brgy. Bigke, Leganes, Iloilo.

Spearheaded by the Metro Iloilo Air Shed Governing Board and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) – Equipment Management Bureau (EMB) 6, the event was also participated by different National Government Agencies (NGAs), Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), private sectors, schools and Local Government Units (LGUs).

A total of 1,200 mangrove saplings were planted in the coastal area to mark a global commitment of building a safe and sustainable environment.

The activity aimed to promote and demonstrate environmental awareness and calls for the conservation of our planet, promoting earth sciences toward a better society.
April is recognized as “The Month of Planet Earth” by virtue of Proclamation No. 1482 signed on April 10, 2008 by former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.

Planet Earth Month is observed and celebrated in more than 193 countries each year.
