A new alternative route to the congested Pulilan to Baliuag Section of Daang Maharlika Highway in the Province of Bulacan is now open to motorists.

Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Mark A. Villar led on Thursday, May 9, 2019 the ceremonial drive-through and inauguration rites for the 9.6-kilometer Pulilan – Baliuag Diversion Road completed under the government's “Build, Build, Build” program.

The four (4) lanes Pulilan – Baliuag Diversion Road which was constructed with the total amount of P509 Million will shorten travel time between the towns of Baliuag and Pulilan from one (1) hour to 30 minutes.

Implemented by DPWH Regional Office 3 under the leadership of Regional Director Roseller Tolentino, motorists may now use this alternate road that begins at Pulilan-Calumpit Road in Barangay Tibag, Pulilan near the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) Toll Plaza and traversing several barangays until it ends at Daang Maharlika in Barangay Tarcan, Baliuag, Bulacan.

The project has a multi-year funding from the DPWH infrastructure program for civil works and road right of way acquisition.

Secretary Villar said that the DPWH will push for the construction of more bypass roads nationwide to improve traffic flow and create new development opportunities.

Similar to Pulilan – Baliuag Diversion Road Project constructed to reduce travel time, DPWH road network capacity improvement and construction of new roads and bridges for a seamless transport system will be our contribution in achieving the goal of sustainable development to improve the life of every Filipino, added Secretary Villar.

An additional feature incorporated by DPWH Regional Office 3 in this project was the inclusion of bike lanes, for faster, safer and pleasant travel experience not just for motorists but also to bikers and pedestrians.

“The main goal is not only to provide vehicular infrastructure but to help conserve environment by promoting biking for transport and recreational use”, said Secretary Villar.
