The flood risk management project along the Cagayan River of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is nearing completion as it is now 90% complete, Public Works and Highways Secretary Mark A. Villar announced.
According to Secretary Villar, the P2.1-billion Cagayan River Basin Project which aims to prevent flooding and bank erosion during typhoon season is now on the final phase.
“Only a few activities needs to be done and we are anticipating to finish the project on September this year,” said Secretary Villar.
Funded under a loan agreement between the Philippine and Japanese Government through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), the Cagayan River Basin Project of the DPWH Unified Project Management Office (UPMO) headed by Undersecretary Emil K. Sadain involves the construction of a 940-meter revetment in Barangay Alibago, Enrile; as well as a 970-meter spur dike and 1,400-meter revetment in Barangay Cataggaman, Tuguegarao City.
The Cagayan River Basin Project is one of the three (3) target areas of the Flood Risk Management Project aside from Tagaloan River and Imus River Basins.
It is also among the 56 river basin projects to be implemented until the year 2034 by the DPWH UPMO Flood Control Management Cluster (UPMO-FCMC) under Director Patrick Gatan.
