
The Cordillera Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (CDRRMC) Joint Inter-agency Task Group Kennon Road decided on Tuesday, May 21, 2019 to open Kennon Road to one-way traffic going up only from May 23, 2019 at 6:00AM to May 27, 2019 at 6:00AM.
Based on the Memorandum dated May 21, 2019 signed by Commodore Albert A. Mogol (ret.), the temporary opening would “help ease the traffic on the routes coming in and out of Baguio with the expected influx of attendees/tourists and other VIPs this coming graduation rites of the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) Class 2019 on May 26, 2019 (Sunday).”
The task group also advices the motorists to prioritize safety while driving and to keep the speed limit at 40kph. Weight of vehicles allowed is five (5) tons and below.
The public has been enjoined to monitor the situation in the area, heed advisories and news updates especially during occurrence of heavy rains caused by localized thunderstorms. Rock fall had been observed by the Task Group and DPWH Personnel along intermittent sections of Kennon Road for the past weeks. In case of incidents that may compromise the safety of the public during the inclusive dates, the Task Group informed that they will close the road line immediately upon the recommendation of the Tuba Municipal Police and the LGU of Tuba, Benguet.
Activities of on-going projects are suspended during the time the Kennon Road is temporarily opened.
