DPWH celebrates 121st Anniversary

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) will be turning 121 years this coming Sunday, June 23, 2019.

On its 121st Anniversary, the Department headed by Secretary Mark A. Villar unveiled its theme “DPWH: Gabay Tungo sa Konkretong Pag-unlad,” and is holding a week-long celebration in the Central, Regional and District Engineering Offices nationwide.

This year’s theme highlights the Department’s KONKRETO 2022 Strategic Road Map which is part of the DPWH Performance Governance System that focuses on improving the lives of Filipinos through the Department’s policies, programs, and projects.

In the Central Office, weeklong activities include the DPWH Regional “One Town, One Product Exhibit; Sports Fest; Free Blood Sugar and Uric Acid Testing; Thanksgiving Mass; Awarding of Retirees and 40-Year Service Loyalty Awards; and DPWH Inter-Cluster Amazing Raze.

DPWH started its operation as the Department of War and Public Works in June 23, 1898 when then President Emilio Aguinaldo issued Organic Decree establishing Revolutionary Government with four (4) government departments.
By virtue of Executive Order No. 124, dated January 30, 1987, the agency is now known as the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) with six (6) bureaus, nine (9) services, sixteen (16) regional offices, five (5) Unified Project Management Offices (UPMO), and one hundred eighty-three (183) District Engineering Offices.
Under President Rodrigo R. Duterte administration, DPWH is at the forefront of implementing various Build, Build, Build projects in the Golden Age of Infrastructure.
