More tourists are expected to visit the famous Kabigan Falls in Barangay Balaoi with the improvement of the tourism road by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) in Pagudpud, Ilocos Norte.

Citing a report from DPWH Region 1 Director Ronnel M. Tan, DPWH Secretary Mark A. Villar said that the construction of the 900-meter road is seen to provide better access for tourists who previously had to walk from the highway to the tourism destination.

“From the previous 30 to 45 minutes walking time from the highway, visitors and residents now only take about 10 to 15 minutes to the municipal forest as it now allows vehicles to pass through the terrain,” said Secretary Villar.

Constructed in the total amount of P28.96-million under the 2018 General Appropriations Act (GAA), the project involved road concreting and slope protection works implemented by DPWH Ilocos Norte First District Engineering Office (DEO).

The access road leading to Kabigan Falls is one of the projects under the DPWH - Department of Tourism (DOT) convergence program, or Tourism Roads Infrastructure Program (TRIP) aimed to improve accessibility of our tourist destinations and stir economic development.
