Public Works Secretary Mark A. Villar announced that construction of the new six (6) storey dormitory for graduate students of the University of the Philippines (UP) Los Baños, Laguna is in full swing.

“Although we have been experiencing bad weather, construction of the new living quarters is right on track and is aimed for completion on May 2020 to provide students with safe, accessible, and convenient facilities,” said Secretary Villar.

Started on March 2019, the implementation of the school building is one of the 20 projects being undertaken by DPWH in various campuses of UP through a memorandum of agreement with the university, with funding from the General Appropriations Act.

DPWH Region 4A Director Samson L. Hebra said that upon completion, the P99-million building can house approximately 200 students in its multiple shared rooms, toilet and bathroom, student lounge, laundry room, pantry, and view deck.

The 800-square meter building situated in approximately 2,000-square meter lot will also be equipped with a bookstore, computer and reading room, exhibit gallery room, commercial stalls, fitness room, and security room to provide a comfortable residential space for the graduate students.
