Aimed to fast-track economic activity in Northern Iloilo and Capiz, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) recently broke ground for the construction of the 15-kilometer Maayon-Sara bypass road.
Citing a report from Region 6 Director Lea N. Delfinado, DPWH Secretary Mark A. Villar said that construction works on the P 390 million road project will be divided into two packages, which shall cover construction and concreting of the two-lane Portland Concrete Cement Pavement (PCCP) road, spanning 4.80-kilometer and 4.43-kilometer, respectively.
The project also involves construction of a bridge which will have a 3-kilometer long road component and 75-meter long bridge component.
“The completion of the by-pass road is in fulfillment of the government’s vision to give priority to road projects that will facilitate social and economic development in various parts of the country,” Villar added.
Both packages, which will also include slope protection, cross drainage, pavement markings, and safety signs, were funded under the 2019 General Appropriations Act (GAA).
The construction cost of the bridge, on the other hand, will be covered by the 2020 GAA.
Among those present in the groundbreaking ceremony of the road project were DPWH officials led by Director Delfinado, Iloilo 5th Congressional District Representative Raul Tupas, and Mayor Jon Aying of Sara, Capiz.
