Millions worth of infrastructure projects that will benefit both locals and tourists were recently completed by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) in the town of Amulung, Cagayan province.

In a report submitted by District Engineer Danilo U. Tabilas of DPWH-Cagayan Third District Engineering Office (DPWH-CTDEO), Secretary Mark A. Villar cited the completion of a 4.23 kilometers road widening project funded under the 2018 Regular Infrastructure Fund.

Costing P56 million, the project involves the construction of one (1) additional lane on both sides of Maharlika Highway, stretching from Barangay Baculud in the town of Iguig to Barangay Babayuan in Amulung.

The road widening is expected to hasten the delivery of goods and services, increase the number of tourists visiting the province, and lessen traffic congestion.

Meanwhile, DPWH also added eight (8) new classrooms with comfort rooms in Amulung National High School to aid the increasing number of students.

The construction of a two (2) storey school building in the amount of P16 million was funded under the Basic Educational Facilities Fund (BEFF) of the Department of Education (DepEd).

“These new, sturdy, and comfortable classrooms will cater a total of 400 students and provide a conducive learning environment that will enable both teachers and students to exhibit their full potential,” said Secretary Villar.
