The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is building a new road and a bridge linking villages in Passi City, Iloilo to boost agricultural production and economic activities in the sugar-rich city.

DPWH Secretary Mark A. Villar expressed confidence that the ongoing construction of the 2.5-kilometer road and 80-meter bridge connecting Barangay Gines Viejo to Barangay Man-it in Passi City will facilitate easier transport of trucks carrying sugar cane from farm to mills.

Started in July 2019, the farm-to-mill road involves construction of a two (2) span bridge traversing Jalaur River in Barangay Gemat-y and two (2) lane road with paved shoulder which is set for completion by 2020.

In her report to Secretary Villar, DPWH Region 6 Director Lea N. Delfinado said the P91-million project, funded under the 2018 General Appropriations Act (GAA) is being implemented by DPWH Iloilo Second District Engineering Office (DEO) through a convergence project with the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI).

“Director Delfinado also reported the completion of a 1.083-kilometer farm-to-mill road in the Municipality of Anilao, Iloilo that is now providing easy access to services and further supporting farmers and residents in the area.
