The Department of Public Works and Highway in partnership with the District Engineers’ League of the Philippines (DELP) went the extra mile in providing public service as the 11 District Engineering Offices (DEOs) of Region II conducted outreach programs to various elementary schools recently.
The 11 DEOs in the Cagayan Valley Region headed by their respective District Engineers gave backpacks and school materials to some pupils in different public primary schools as part of the “Balik Eswela” program. This year’s theme is “Delivering Education as Leverage for Progress.
The Quirino District Engineering Office (DPWH-QDEO)conducted the gift-giving activity at Gamis Elementary School in Saguday, Quirino; the Nueva Vizcaya First District Engineering Office (DPWH-NVFDEO) at Hukhakyang Elementary School in Ambaguio, Nueva Vizcaya; the Nueva Vizcaya Second District Engineering Office (DPWH-NVSDEO) at Palabotan Elementary School in Dupax del Sur; the Isabela Second District Engineering (DPWH-ISDEO) at Sta. Filomena Integrated School in San Mariano, Isabela; the Cagayan Second District Engineering Office (DPWH-CSDEO) at Canayun Elementary School in Abulug, Cagayan; and the Cagayan Third District Engineering Office (DPWH-CTDEO) at Don Jose Paulino Elementary School in Enrile and Baliwag Elementary School in Peñablanca, both in Cagayan.
According to DPWH-QDEO District Engineer and DELP Region II President Marifel T. Andes, the activity aimed at promoting and strengthening awareness on the importance of education as the key to nation’s progress.
“This is just a simple gesture that we hope will motivate our young learners to study and strive hard for the achievement of their goals,” DE Andes said. “Eventually, these young minds will be the frontrunners for our country’s development in the future,” she added.
The annual “Balik Eskwela Program” is now on its fourth year. It is a nationwide project iniated by DELP on 2015 in fulfiment to its mandate of community engagement and social responsibility.
