
The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) –Biliran District Engineering Office (DEO) recently completed the construction of flood control project along Busali river in Biliran town.
The project worth P9.33M is a late release of the 2018 budget under the Local Infrastructure Program.
According to David P. Adongay Jr., District Engineer, the project was prioritized to continue the construction of flood control structure along Busali River and to minimize flood related casualties and damage to properties crops and surrounding environment.
The project entails the construction of a 156-linear meter length on both sides of the river with a height of 3.5-meter.
The flood control project is designed to protect the existing Busali Bridge and the national road nearby subjected to heavy floods during rainy days. Likewise, it will protect the lives and properties of the inhabitants living along the river banks.
“This project is vital because it will avert flooding thereby preventing damage to the existing Bridge located along the National Highway which is the only access in going to the only Provincial Hospital and Port under Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) from the eastern part of the island,” said Adongay.
The District Engineer also reported that another flood control project under 2018 late release fund was also completed along Mapuyo river in Kawayan town. This project entails the construction and reconstruction of revetment structure with a total length of 192-linear meter on both sides and a height of 3.5-meter with a contract cost of P14.46M. The project has a target completion date on September 23, 2019 but was completed on June 11, 2019, just in time for the onset of rainy season.
