The construction of the P101.8-million flood mitigation project along the downstream portion of Ampayon Section in Butuan City is now 89 percent completed.

The 780.80-linear meter concrete slope protection project is under Stage 1 Phase 2 of the Lower Agusan Development Project, Flood Control Component, East Bank Drainage to improve waterways, minimize flooding and safeguard nearby infrastructure and properties.

In his report to Secretary Mark A. Villar, DPWH Undersecretary for Unified Project Management Office Operations and Technical Services Emil K. Sadain said that the structure will control the water from Ampayon River that flows from the upland eastern areas of Butuan city, particularly in parts of Antongalon, Taguibo, and Pianing, streaming through Ampayon creek where it meets garbage and debris that clog near the Ampayon Bridge. The clogging impedes the flow of water, causing a runoff towards the main road, especially during heavy rains.

“Once the second phase is completed, flooding along Ampayon section will be totally addressed”, said Undersecretary Sadain.

“DPWH aims to fully develop this area as flood-free because this is the eyed location for the city’s industrial zone”.
