The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) recently completed a major flood control project for the low-lying areas of Dulag town in Leyte province.
DPWH Region 8 Director Nerie Bueno said that the project dubbed Daguitan-Marabong Flood Control Project was completed ahead of rainy season to ensure safety of Barangay Cabacungan and Barangay Fatima residents previously affected by river overflow in the area.
A total of P233.52 million was spent to complete the project involving the construction of 700 lineal meters revetment (300 lineal meters at Barangay Cabacungan and 400 lineal meters at Barangay Fatima) and construction of 980 lineal meter cut-off channel (560 lineal meters at Barangay Cabacungan and 420 lineal meters at Barangay Fatima).
“These walls and cut-off channels will prevent flooding in surrounding areas, spread of water-borne diseases, and destruction of crops,” said Director Bueno.
The flood control structures which started construction August last year, were originally aimed for completion in June 2020 but completed December 2019.
