The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), in coordination with the Public-Private Partnership Center (PPPC), conducts a market sounding exercise for the improvement, operation, and maintenance of Kennon Road on January 31, 2020 at DPWH Central Office, Bonifacio Drive, Port Area, Manila.

According to DPWH Secretary Mark A. Villar, the main purpose of the undertaking attended by contractors, financing institutions, and transaction advisors or consultants from different sectors is to gauge the interest of potential investors from the private sector in forming a convergence project with the government to improve the highway and provide our stakeholders a safer and more reliable road network to the summer capital of the country.

“We took this initiative in order to provide a long-term solution for the recurring disasters along Kennon Road that hamper socio-economic activities and endanger the lives of both locals and tourists,” said Secretary Villar.

DPWH Undersecretary for Planning and PPP Service Maria Catalina E. Cabral reiterated the importance of a convergence program to prevent and mitigate road slope disasters that often occur along the main thoroughfare by installing appropriate countermeasures at identified sections of the very important road leading to Baguio City.

“Through this event, DPWH will be able to share proposed scope of works along Kennon Road and with the help of the private sector, come up with the best possible solutions and technology for the project,” said Undersecretary Cabral.
