
The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has completed its retrofitting works to restore structural integrity of the decades-old Batu Bridge in Bambang, Nueva Vizcaya.
Director Loreta M. Malaluan of DPWH Region II said that the implementation of the P1.9 million worth of repair works to the existing Batu Bridge substructures made it more durable, sturdy and resistant to ground motion.
The restoration and strengthening of the 390.6-meter Batu Bridge covers patching of damaged piers, structural concrete injection, cement plaster finish and grubbing at both abutments, and reconstruction of slope protection structure which involves the replacement of 12 linear meters of gabions with mattresses.
“With the completion of this retrofitting project, we can guarantee the travelling public, a safe usability of the Batu Bridge,” said Director Malaluan.
Batu Bridge is one of the major bridges along Daang Maharlika Highway (Cagayan Valley Road) connecting the municipalities of Bambang and Bayombong, Nueva Vizcaya towards Isabela, Quirino and Cagayan Provinces.
