
Public Works and Highways Secretary Mark A. Villar on Wednesday, February 12, 2020 led the inauguration ceremony of a newly-completed evacuation center at Barangay Greater Fairview, Quezon City.
“We are glad to turn-over this resilient building that will serve as a safe refuge of calamity-displaced families in this area of Quezon City,” said Secretary Villar.
According to Secretary Villar, the four-storey evacuation center built on higher elevation is complete with facilities to ensure displaced families can cope with calamities.
The building has an accommodation area with a capacity of 156 beds, and is complete with separate toilet and shower rooms for men and women, an infirmary and pharmacy, laundry and drying area, centralized kitchen, stock room, breastfeeding room, roof deck, paging system room with security cameras, generator, garbage segregation facility, wheelchair ramp, elevator, fire alarm system, fire exit, and an accessibility ramp and elevator to accommodate the needs of persons with disability.
“It is an integral aspect of our “Build, Build, Build” campaign not just to focus on massive infrastructure build-up but also to make sure that our projects are resilient and unyielding at the face of natural hazards,” added Secretary Villar.
The new evacuation center was implemented by DPWH Quezon City District Engineering Office (DEO) in the amount of P58 million.
Together with Secretary Villar during the event were Quezon City 5th District Representative Alfred D. Vargas, DPWH National Capital Region Director Ador G. Canlas, DPWH Bureau of Maintenance Director Ernesto S. Gregorio, and DPWH Quezon City 1st District Engineer Marlyn G. Inguillo.
