5 new senior citizen buildings built in Nueva Ecija

To provide venues for social activities the elderly, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has built five (5) new buildings for senior citizens in Nueva Ecija.

In his report to DPWH Secretary Mark A. Villar, DPWH Region 3 Director Roseller Tolentino said that successfully completed are the multi-purpose buildings in the municipalities of San Leonardo, Bongabon, Talavera, and Cabanatuan City in 2019.

Constructed in the total amount of P14.547-million under the 2019 General Appropriations Act, the senior citizen buildings can now be used by the elders in Barangay Cruz, Bongabon; Barangay Pag-asa, Talavera; Barangay Mambangnan, San Leonardo; and Barangays Mabini Extension and Caalibangbangan in Cabanatuan City.

The senior citizen buildings implemented by DPWH Nueva Ecija First and Second District Engineering Offices (DEO) feature person with disability friendly ramps and spacious auditorium as well as toilet and bath.

“These new centers will definitely benefit the whole community as it can now serve as venue for various recreational, educational, and social programs of our senior citizens,” said Secretary Villar.

Based on Section 4 of RA 7876, all cities and municipalities in the country are required to establish a senior citizens center with an area of 500 square meters.
