The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has constructed a revetment wall along the 393-meter section of Anahawin River in the town of Calintaan, Occidental Mindoro.

District Engineer Josefino M. Melgar Jr. of DPWH Mindoro Occidental District Engineering Officer (DEO) reported to DPWH Region 4B Director Wilfredo S. Mallari that the revetment structure was recently completed to protect the flood-prone Barangay Poypoy from the overflow of Anahawin River.

“A total of eight (8) layers of gabion retaining wall filled with 11,616 cubic meters of rock and filter cloth measuring 10,574 square meters were also installed in this project amounting to P48.997 million,” said District Engineer Melgar.

The retaining wall will prevent soil erosion of river banks along Anahawin River thereby alleviating flooding and protecting the source of living of residents close to the area especially during inclement weather condition.

Originally aimed to be completed by April 2020, DPWH Mindoro Occidental DEO completed this flood-control project in Calintaan three (3) months ahead of schedule.
