The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has installed a new booster pump at Estero de Calubcob in Sampaloc aimed to minimize flooding occurence in Manila.

In his report to DPWH Secretary Mark A. Villar, DPWH NCR Ador G. Canlas said that the flood management project has been completed ahead of its set completion in May 2020 to mitigate flooding along various barangays in the city.

“DPWH North Manila District Engineering Office prioritized the improvement of the new flood mitigation system with catchment area of 39.52 hectares to protect residents in Barangays 472, 475, and 505,” said Director Canlas.

Started in June 2019, the P65-million drainage improvement at Estero de Calubcob increases the water holding capacity as it serves as an outfall for all local drainages connected to Washington to Piy Margal Drainage Main in Sampaloc Manila.

“The timely completion of projects like these is really important in protecting not just lives but also properties as we experience more frequent flooding in Metro Manila during rainy season,” said Secretary Villar.
