Progress of works for the Department of Public Works and Highways’ (DPWH) 2-lane Sampaguita – Makilos Road project connecting Agusan del Sur in Region 13 and Bukidnon Province in Region 10 has reached 33 percent accomplishment.
The road project which is expected to cater to the tribes of Manobo and Mamanwa in the area of Caraga has already received an allocation of P2.81 billion out of the P7.14 billion needed to construct the entire 73.06-kilometer road.
DPWH Region 13 Director Pol M. Delos Santos said that once the road is completed, it will enhance the delivery of services to indigenous people in the area — the Manobos and Mamanwas, as well as other marginalized communities.
“With this project, we hope to improve the socio-economic condition and promote peace and development in areas vulnerable to conflict”, added Director Delos Santos.
Scope of works on the multi-billion project include: road opening and paving with provision of drainage, slope protection structures and road safety devices, as well as construction of three (3) bridges with a total length of 240.8 linear meters.
The Sampaguita – Makilos Road is part of the East-West Lateral Road Project aiming to connect Region 13 and Region 10.
