The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) completed two (2) flood control structures along Jalaur River to protect the residents of Barangays Tabucan, Barotac Nuevo and Poblacion, Passi City in Iloilo.
The flood control project in Barotac Nuevo, built in the amount of P46.9 million, is composed of a 254.8-lineal meter structure including drainage and 181-lineal meter groundsill (gabions).
On the other hand, Passi City’s P23.2-million project involved the construction of a 186.4-lineal meter revetment wall.
District Engineer Sanny Boy O. Oropel of DPWH Iloilo 2nd District Engineering Office (DEO) said that these flood control projects aim to protect the lives and properties of the people living near Jalaur River, especially from the blistering impact of flood when heavy rains occur.
“The structures also help prevent erosion of soil and block water influx to the road that may affect residential areas and other properties situated near the river,” District Engineer Oropel added.
