The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is taking part in the installation of a quarantine area in the island of Sibakel, Lantawan, Basilan Province which will be used as an isolation area for returning Filipinos from Sabah, Malaysia.
Citing a report from DPWH Regional Office 9 Director Cayamumbao D. Dia, DPWH Secretary Mark A. Villar said that a total of 800 liters of diesel, four (4) pails of Oil 10, and four (4) pails of engine oil were turned over to the Enginnering Battalion of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) to mobilize the equipment for the site development of the proposed quarantine area.
"DPWH is extending assistance to expedite the installation of an urgent quarantine site needed by returning overseas Filipino workers who were denied entry by some local government units due to stringent community quarantine policy," said Secretary Villar.
"This is also consistent with the proclamation of President Rodrigo Roa Duterte that all returning Filipinos should not be denied entry and must be quarantined immediately to prevent further spread of virus," added Secretary Villar.
The new quarantine site in Basilan is a project of the WESTMINCOM Inter-Agency Maritime Security Coordinating Committee COVID 19 - an Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of COVID 19.
