The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has already doubled its work accomplishment for the Marawi Transcentral Road project in a span of 90 days since the relaxation of the quarantine measures.
Part of the DPWH flagship infrastructure projects in support to the government’s effort to rebuild roads damaged by armed-conflict in Marawi City, the urgent rehabilitation of Marawi Transcentral Road will pave the way for improved mobility, said Secretary Mark A. Villar.
Secretary Villar added that there has been significant progress for Marawi Transcentral Road Project particularly at contract package 2 under contractor Kouzbary Builders working with apparent speed to make-up for lost days of the work suspension from March to May due to the coronavirus pandemic.
In his report to Secretary Villar, Undersecretary for Unified Project Management Office (UPMO) Operations Emil K. Sadain said that from 35 percent accomplishment as of May 2020, contract package 2 covering two road sections of MSU-GMA Terminal Road and Lumidong-Amaipakpak Road is about 83% complete and is anticipated to be fully completed by this last quarter of CY 2020.
In his occular inspection in Marawi City, Undersecretary Sadain reiterated to the project engineers, contractors and consultants to strictly adhere with the protocols for construction sites issued by Secretary Villlar, the guidelines of the Inter Agency Task Force for Emerging Infectious Diseases or IATF, and regulation of local government of Marawi and Lanao Del Sur to prevent the uncontrollable outbreak of the disease.
Also present in the inspection and reporting the work progress is UPMO Roads Management Cluster 1 (Bilateral) Project Manager Francisco Sawali.
Contract package 1A is about 41 percent complete from 24 percent in May. The project under contractors Unimasters Conglomeration, Inc./M.M.A. Achiever Const. & Dev’t Corp./CDH Construction/Flying Seven Construction (JV) covers two sections of the Bacong-Iligan-Marawi Road.
Meanwhile, five road sections of Bacong-Poona-Marantao-Marawi Road, the GMA Terminal Access, Marawi-Cadre-New Capitol Road, Marcos Boulevard, and Idarus Road, comprises package 1B which is 58 percent completed by contractors Al Hussein Const./N.B. Sabo Construction.
These road sections are part of the 18.97 kilometer project for the stage 1 of reconstruction and development plan for Greater Marawi funded by a grant from the Japan International Cooperation Agency amounting P970 million.
The design and build road project which was started in July 2019 and scheduled for completion by July 2021 is being implemented by DPWH UPMO Roads Management Cluster 1 (Bilateral) headed by Project Director Virgilio C. Castillo under close construction supervision of Project Manager Sawali, Marawi City rehabilitation action officer Assistant Director Honorato Saldua Jr., overall project coordinator Assistant Director Botoanun Baunto, and Project Engineers Yacob Mambuay, Reyderick Siozon and Subhair Pasandalan.
