The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has completed flood-mitigation projects that will prevent the overflow of Salug Daku River in the municipality of Mahayag, province of Zamboanga del Sur.
In his report to Secretary Mark A. Villar, DPWH Regional Office 9 Director Cayamombao D. Dia said that the projects include a 6-meter revetment spanning 487.6 meters and another 8.69 meters in height and 328 meters in length both in Barangay Poblacion.
“Prior to the completion of these projects, rain-swollen Salug Daku inundates farm lands and residential properties,” said Director Cayamombao.
“These high revetment structures with total cost of P194.78 million are now serving as barriers protecting lives and agricultural livelihood of people residing close to the river,” added Director Cayamombao.
DPWH Regional Office 9 started implementing the two (2) flood-control projects in August 2019 and both were completed in time for the rainy season.
