The completion of a river control project by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has facilitated the protection from the dangers of flooding in Barangay Balongating, Guipos, Zamboanga Del Sur

According to DPWH Secretary Mark A. Villar, a total of P27.268-million was allocated for the construction of a revetment structure along Dinas River measuring 370 meters in length and 4 to 7 meters in height.

The river wall constructed along portions close to residential areas are three (3) meters higher than the rest of the project so they have better barrier against river overflow.

“Revetment structures along major rivers are being built nationwide to avert flooding and prevent destruction to the properties and livelihood of the people at close proximity to rivers or in low-lying areas,” said DPWH Secretary Villar.

Scope of works includes structure excavation, steel sheet pile foundation, concrete capping, one (1) meter high concrete slope structure, grouted riprap, cross-line drainage canal and hand laid rock embankment.
