Villar: Road Linking Zamboanga Del Norte & Del Sur, underway

Aimed to further improve accessibility in Zamboanga Peninsula, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is currently fast-tracking the concrete paving of Sindangan-Bayog-Lakewood Road that will serve as a faster route between the provinces of Zamboanga del Norte and Zamboanga del Sur.

DPWH Secretary Mark A. Villar said that once the entire 79.346 kilometers road project is completed, the usual 6-hour travel time will now be reduced to just 4 hours, making transport of good and services more efficient for both tourists, residents, as well as small and medium-sized enterprises in the area.

“With the released funds amounting to P3-billion, a total of 51 kilometers were already completed while 4.95-kilometers of road with an accomplishment rate of 65% is still on-going,” added Secretary Villar.

The project begins at National Road Junction Dipolog-Sindangan-Liloy Road, traversing multiple municipalities in Zamboanga del Norte, and ends at Junction Tubod-Lakewood Road in Zamboanga del Sur.

In her report to Secretary Villar, DPWH Region IX Director Cayamombao D. Dia said that considering the significant economic impact of the said project to the Provinces of Zamboanga del Norte and Zamboanga del Sur, they are constantly coordinating with the contractor to assure that the said project to be completed on schedule.
