The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) completed the construction of Binalbagan Riverbank Slope Protection in Isabela, Negros Occidental last April 25, 2019 .

The P91.26-million project involves the 426.80 linear-meter construction of slope protection including driving of steel sheet piles and concrete beam coping along Hinigaran-Isabela Road, upstream of Binalbagan-Bagacay Bridge.

District Engineer Randolfo Melosantos of DPWH Negros Occidental 2nd District Engineering Office (DEO) explained that the slope protection project prevents further scouring and possible collapse of embarkment due to strong current of water coming from the upstream portion of Binalbagan River.

“Tthe slope protection also provide additional support for the embankment in the existing abutments of Bagacay Bridge against further damage especially during downpour brought about by series of typhoons,” District Engineer Melosantos added.

The project, which started construction June 2018, is funded under the DEO’s Regular Infrastructure Program for CY 2018.
