The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is rushing the completion of three (3) ongoing contracts to build access roads leading to the newly-completed Port of Borac in Coron, Palawan.

DPWH Secretary Mark A. Villar said that a total of 9.92 kilometers of paved road that will ease locals’ traveling woes and further promote tourism in Coron are on track for completion within the year.

According to Secretary Villar, the following are on-going road projects: 3.25-kilometer road passing along Barangays of Decabobo, Buenavista and Turda costing P102.206 Million; 4.45-kilometer road passing along barangays of Guadalupe, San Nicolas and Decabobo; and 2.22-kilometer road traversing the barangays of Guadalupe and San Nicolas are on track for completion within the year.

The implementation of the road projects began in 2017 and 2018, in time for the construction of the new Borac Port by the Philippine Ports Authority (PPA), added Secretary Villar.

When completed, it is also expected to support Coron’s trade industry through easier access to and from the new Port of Borac.

To date, the 3.25-kilometer road passing along Barangays of Decabobo, Buenavista and Turda is now 88.49 percent completed; the 4.45-kilometer road passing along barangays of Guadalupe, San Nicolas and Decabobo is 98.78 percent completed while the 2.22-kilometer road traversing the barangays of Guadalupe and San Nicolas is now 78.75 percent completed.

Concreted roads leading to ports are vital in tourism areas like the islands of Coron which are reachable only either by planes or ferries, said Secretary Villar.
