Residents of Barangay Nagsabaran in Claveria, Cagayan are now protected from the threat of flooding as the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) completed the construction of a flood control structure along Cabicungan River.
The said P10-million flood control structure spanning a total of 114 linear meters aims to address the sudden rise of water from the Cabicungan River during heavy rains, which affects the adjacent communities situated in flood prone areas.
DPWH Secretary Mark A. Villar commended the DPWH Cagayan 2nd District Engineering Office (DEO) for its efficient implementation of the project, completing the flood control structure in time for the rainy season.
Regional Director Loreta M. Malaluan of DPWH Region 2 reported to Secretary Villar and Undersecretary for Luzon Operations Rafael C. Yabut the importance of providing residents the structure as it ensures their safety, protects their properties from damage, and serves as first line of defense for their crop fields.
The construction of the flood control structure was funded under the General Appropriations Act (GAA) of 2019 through DPWH’s Flood Management Program.
