The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has completed its engineering intervention for landslide-prone section along Liloy-Ipil Road in Barangay Kauswagan, Liloy, Zamboanga del Norte.
Public Works and Highways Secretary Mark A. Villar said that DPWH Zamboanga del Norte 2nd District Engineering Office has completed its 2,250-square meter reinforced concrete wall project along the road section in the amount of P16.66 Million.
The slope protection project was implemented to prevent erosion/road slip along the 50-meter landslide-prone portion of Liloy-Ipil Road, hence avert road closure during typhoon or rainy season.
“The completion of this slope protection project allows safer access of motorists along this road even after inclement weather condition and prevents additional cost to government due to recurring road damage brought by landslide,” said Secretary Villar.
“Ultimately, preventing road closure would aid traders traversing Liloy-Ipil Road, hence encourage more small and medium-scale enterprises (SMEs) who see business potential in this area of the province,” added Secretary Villar.
DPWH Zamboanga del Norte 2nd District Engineering Office completed the Liloy slope project in September 2020, a month earlier than its target completion date.
