Public Works and Highways Secretary Mark A. Villar on Monday, November 2, 2020 said that the DPWH quick response teams are now preparing for Typhoon Siony while simultaneously clearings roads that are still closed due to recent typhoons.
“Our maintenance crew with equipment, including those that are still clearing roads due to typhoons Rolly, Quinta and Pepito, are now preparing for the incoming typhoon Siony. These teams are also trimming trees along national roads to minimize fallen debris during typhoons and expedite road opening,” said Secretary Villar.
To date, a total of 23 national road sections remain closed to traffic and are being cleared by the DPWH after two (2) consecutive typhoons Rolly and Quinta rendered them impassable.
DPWH Secretary Villar said that 14 road sections were closed due to Super Typhoon Rolly, nine (9) of which are in Bicol Region, three (3) for Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR), and one (1) each for Region 3 and 4-A while nine (9) are still closed from Tropical Storm Quinta composed of three (3) in CAR, two (2) in Region 2, one (1) in Region 3, two (2) in Region 4-A, and one (1) in Region 10.
“Rolly and Quinta has caused series of slides, fallen trees and electric posts, flooding, and road cut along national roads, rendering at least 35 road sections impassable. Our quick response teams with equipment have so far cleared and opened twelve (12) from these sections and we are working 24/7 especially in Bicol Region to ensure we assist affected areas that need relief operations,” said Secretary Villar.
Closed roads in Region 5 mostly due to fallen trees, utility posts, and flooding include nine (9) in Camarines Sur namely: Daang Maharlika K0371+(-317)-K0379+300 Sipocot section in Camarines Sur, Naga City-Carolina-Panicuasson Road K0440+500 - K0443+000; Milaor-Minalabac-Pili Road; Manguiring-Sibobo-Cagsao Cabanbanan Road; Lagonoy-Caramoan Road K0530+300, RS, Ancolan, Presentacion; Goa-Tinambac Road; San Rafael-Mampirao Road; Daang Maharlika Nabua-Poblacion Section; Baao-Iriga City-Nabua Road, Iriga City proper; and one (1) in Sorsogon specifically along Donsol - Banuang Gurang RoadK0589+850.
In CAR, impassable roads are: Kennon Road; Baguio-Bontoc Road K0359+500-K0359+515, Tabbak Section, Brgy. Napua, Sabangan, Mountain Province; Jct.Talubin-Barlig-Natonin- ParacelisCalaccad Road, K0418+800- K0418+830, Maowey, Kadaclan, Barlig, Mountain Province; Claveria - Calanasan- Kabugao Road, K0717+480-K0717+770, intermittent section, Namaltugan Section in Calanasan, Apayao; Tawang - Ambiong Road K0263+900 - K0263+930, Sitio Lower Riverside, Brgy. Ambiong, La Trinidad, Benguet; and Tabuk - Banawe via Tanudan – Barlig Road K0522+155 - K0522+200, Matteled Section and K0522+200 – K0522+250 section in Dupligan, Tanudan, Kalinga.
Affected sections in Region 2 include Cabagan-Sta. Maria Overflow Bridge in Cabagan, Sta. Maria, Isabela and the Jct. Logac Lasam Gagabutan Road (JLLGR) Rizal Section K0760+700-K0761+500, in Sitio Masi, Brgy. Talat, Rizal, Cagayan and in Region 3 are the following: Nueva Ecija - Aurora Road, Detour Road at Diteki Bridge and K0178+800 (Pasong Bito Section) in Aurora and Baliwag-Candaba -Sta. Ana Road 0068+850 – K0069+250 in San Agustin, Candaba, Pampanga.
The STAR Tollway - Pinamucan Bypass Road, K0104+000 - K0105+000 and Talisay-Laurel-Agoncillo Unclassified Road at Sitio Manalao, Agoncillo in Batangas; and Catanauan-Buenavista Road, K0250+(-744) - K0255+199 and K0270 sections in Quezon Province, and Misamis Oriental -Bukidnon - Agusan Road, Siloo Bridge, Brgy. San Luis, Malitbog, Bukidnon are also undergoing restoration works and clearing operations.
