Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Mark A. Villar announced that a new stabilization structure is underway to prevent landslides and road closure along Tagudin-Cervantes Road in the Municipality of Suyo, Ilocos Sur.
“During rainy season, landslides often lead to road lane closure in Sitio Quinilaoen, causing inconvenience to motorists traversing the Tagudin-Cervantes Road that’s why we prioritized the installation of slope protection along this section,” said Secretary Villar.
Based on a report from DPWH Ilocos Sur Second District Engineer Jose Ginete Jr, the project consists of two (2) different slope protection designs — rock netting and shotcrete procedure aimed to provide additional support and avoid soil slipping.
A total amount of P40-million was allocated for the construction of a 1,400 square meter slope area which started last May 2020.
“Despite the pandemic, workers are working under strict compliance to health safety protocols to ensure on-time completion of this project that is expected to provide safer travel for motorists,” added Secretary Villar.
