Two (2) road projects of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) in the Province of Cagayan are expected to give boost to agri-business and agri-ecotourism industries.

Secretary Mark A. Villar identified these two (2) road projects in the towns of Abulug and Piat, costing P17.5 million in total, funded through DPWH’s Convergence and Special Support Program for fiscal year 2019 and 2020 respectively.

Citing reports from District Engineer Lorna B. Asuten of DPWH Cagayan 2nd DEO, Secretary Villar said that one of the projects is the improvement of 690-meter Basiguian Road leading to Manila North Road (MNR) which is already set to be opened to commuters to provide high accessibility and smooth trade in the area.

“The project aims to strengthen the agri-business industry in Abulug, wherein there is high number of livestock production as well as rice, corn, vegetable, and coconut products supplying the local market”, said Secretary Villar.

Meanwhile, an ongoing 490-meters access road construction is seen to ensure easier travel to the Integrated Agri-Ecotourism Park, a declared tourism site of Piat, Cagayan.

“This road project, which now reached 95.28 percent accomplishment, involves the concreting of a two-lane road aimed to improve connectivity to the site”, added Secretary Villar

When completed, the project in Piat will open opportunities to the public and private sectors for livelihood projects, thereby creating jobs that are contributory to the growth of local economy.
