6th DPWH Research Symposium Happening Online this November 26

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) will once again hold its annual presentation of researches dubbed “DPWH Research Symposium” showcasing latest and promising local and global innovation and studies on construction technology.

Secretary Mark A. Villar said that unlike events staged in the last five (5) years, the DPWH Research Symposium 2020 with theme entitled “Construction Technology Amidst Pandemic” will be a virtual video conference but will still involve participants from the DPWH Bureaus, Services, Regional and District Engineering Offices, the academe, and related construction industries.

“The pandemic although challenging, will not prevent us from showcasing and learning from deserving researchers and pioneers. I could not stress enough the importance of these events which lead us implementors in integrating new studies in our policies and future projects,” said Secretary Villar.

“We believe that utilizing new technologies will be able to make our infrastructure more resilient, sustainable and cost-efficient,” added Secretary Villar.

On the sixth DPWH Research Symposium, a total of seven (7) notable researches will be featured, which include: the “Laboratory Evaluation of the Superpave Level I Mixed Design Method 2020” by the DPWH Bureau of Research and Standards (BRS); “Build Sustainable Pavement with High RAP Mixes” by SBS Philippines Corporation; “Blended Cement Type 1L - New Cement Technology for Durable and Sustainable Concrete” by Republic Cement; “New Asphalt Solutions: Novel Ultra-Thin Mastic Asphalt Wearing Course (NUTMA/MA) and Asphalt Overlay on Resonant Rubblized Concrete Pavement” by FMC Research Solutions Inc. & Beijing Municipal Engineering Research Institute; “Performance of Sodium Silicate Hydrate Containing Nanosilica From Rice Husk Ash as Corrosion Protection for Pre-corroded Steel Using Nyquist and Bode Plots” by the University of the Philippines - Los Baños; “A Calculation Method to Design the Flexible Facing System for Soil Nailed Slopes” by Maccaferri (Philippines), Inc.; and the “Low-Density Cellular Concrete Fill” by Rebtrade International Corporation.

From 2015 to 2019, the DPWH Research Symposium was also able to showcase a total of 63 researches from the DPWH-BRS, various firms and the academe. These were all featured and published in the yearly DPWH Technical Journal.
