Sunday, November 20, 2016

DPWH Regional Office X hosted the training course on Flood Control Planning and Design with Project Impact Analysis (PIA) last November 14-18.

Participants include Civil Engineers from the Regional Office and from the District Offices under the Planning and Design Division and some invited engineers from DPWH Regional Office XI.

Since the Department is the one responsible for the planning, design, construction and maintenance of major infrastructure projects including flood control and water resources development system in the country, this training course has been designed as one way to enhance the flood management system in the Philippines.

The course focused on planning and design-related topics. To provide the engineers with tools for facilitating the planning of flood control projects in their respective jurisdiction, the participants also had their hands-on workshop in performing computer-based modelling and analysis using Geographic Information System (GIS), Hydrologic Engineering Centers – Hydrologic Modeling Systems (HEC-HMS) and Hydrologic Engineering Centers – River Analysis System (HEC-RAS).

To gauge the effectiveness of the program, a post-training was given to the participants at the end of the 5-day training.
