DPWH Builds Temporary Footbridge for Fajardo Bridge Replacement Project

Saturday, February 6, 2021

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) will be constructing a temporary footbridge in anticipation for the reconstruction and full-closure of the 14-meter Fajardo Bridge in Barangay 455, city of Manila.

DPWH Secretary Mark A. Villar said that the old bridge built in 1975 will be demolished and replaced to make way for a better bridge that conforms to the latest DPWH standard specification and seismic design.

“We have here a 46-year old bridge that has only undergone minor repairs in its superstructure. With the replacement project, Fajardo Bridge will be a much-sturdier bridge with an increased carrying and discharge capacity below,” said Secretary Villar.

According to DPWH National Capital Region Director Eric A. Ayapana, the 2-lane Fajardo Bridge is only one-lane passable since February 1, 2021 while DPWH conducts preparatory activities before the board piling works on the superstructure.

Fajardo Street is a one-way traffic street, hence various re-routing schemes will be implemented to prevent traffic buid up while the bridge replacement project is on-going.
