Construction of a slope protection structure is underway along the sections of Guimaras Circumferential Road in the barangays of Igdarapdap and Concordia Norte in Nueva Valencia, which aims to resolve the persisting threat of landslide in the area.
Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Mark A. Villar, citing a report from District Engineer Rhodora B. Nuñal of the DPWH Guimaras District Engineering Office (DEO), said that the ongoing project involves the construction of a 433-lineal meter slope protection with 2,850-meter high tensile wire and erosion control mat that will help stabilize soil condition, thus prevent landslide occurrence.
Secretary Villar further explained that the DPWH Guimaras DEO is also including a 353-lineal meter canal, 6.30-meter culvert pipe, 3,468-meter anchor bolt drilling and grouting, and 360-meter pre-cast concrete curb and gutter for optimal protection.
“This project amounting P50.1 million will help these barangays in the municipality of Nueva Valencia by preventing isolation brought by road blockage from landslides and soil collapse especially during rainy days,” said Secretary Villar.
"Guimaras Circumferential Road serves as the main access to schools, business establishments and recreational areas in the town hence its safety features must always be prioritized," added Secretary Villar.
The slope protection project is expected to be completed by June this year, just in time before the start of rainy season.
