Public Works and Highways Secretary Mark A. Villar announced the completion of a newly-widened bridge that now serves motorists traversing Sindangan-Liloy Road, in the town of Salug, Province of Zamboanga del Norte.

Secretary Villar said that the widening of Canawan Bridge in Barangay Canawan, Salug from two (2) lanes to four (4) lanes is expected to ease congestion of vehicles and improve the delivery of goods and services for the locals in the area.

The newly-completed project also involves slope protection work to avoid or minimize erosion or soil disturbance.

The widening of the 40.33-meter Canawan Bridge was implemented by the DPWH Zamboanga del Norte 2nd District Engineering Office with a total budget allocation of P43.21 million funded under 2019 General Appropriations Act (GAA).

As a safety feature especially during night time, 12 solar powered lamps with post were installed on the side the bridge, making it the first bridge in the 3rd Legislative District of Zamboanga del Norte with the best illumination.

Now, the widened and well-lighted Canawan Bridge provides safer roads and better travel experience, accommodating an increasing number of motorists from eastern side of Zamboanga del Norte and western side of Zamboanga Sibugay and Zamboanga City.
