The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) will be implementing a total of P2.34 Billion worth of water management facilities nationwide this year 2021.
DPWH Secretary Mark A. Villar said that of the total amount from the 2021 General Appropriations Act, no less than 476 projects will be implemented which include construction/rehabilitation of water distribution/supply systems, rainwater collectors, multipurpose buildings for local water districts and water tanks for local government units across the country.
“Part of our budget this year is allocated for the construction and rehabilitation of local water supply systems in our effort to aid addressing water shortage and providing safe and accessible water across the country,” said Secretary Villar.
“These facilities are sustainable, and will provide long-term reliable water supply for drinking or basic hygiene, especially now to prevent spread of infection from virus and diseases,” added Secretary Villar.
The DPWH Head Office is set to build/rehabilitate 17 projects costing P200 Million in various areas nationwide; DPWH-Cordillera Administrative Region and its District Engineering Offices (DEOs) will have 38 projects to implement costing P161.68 Million; DPWH Ilocos Region and DEOs with eight (8) projects costing P36.03 Million; DPWH Cagayan Valley Region and DEOs with nine (9) projects costing P74.5 Million; DPWH Central Luzon with 13 projects costing P74.5 Million; DPWH CALABARZON and DEOs with 66 projects costing P212.31 Million; DPWH MIMAROPA and DEOs with five (5) projects costing P16 Million; DPWH Bicol Region and DEOs with 39 projects costing P190 Million.
Also, this year, the DPWH Western Visayas Regional Office and DEOs will be undertaking a total of 68 water facility projects costing P325.25 Million; DPWH Central Visayas and DEOs with 31 projects costing P132.9 Million; DPWH Eastern Visayas and DEOs with 14 projects costing P117.13 Million.
While DPWH Zamboanga Peninsula and its DEOs has received an allocation of P169.4 Million for 38 water supply projects; DPWH Northern Mindanao and DEOs has P289.25 Million for the implementation of 66 projects; DPWH Davao Regional Office and DEOs has P260.19 Million for 45 projects; DPWH SOCCSKSARGEN has P55.55 Million for 10 projects; and DPWH CARAGA and DEOs has an allocation of P56.15 Million for nine (9) projects.
