Farmers and residents of Barangay Bulawan, in Payao Town, Zamboanga Sibugay now have better mobility and access to basic social services with the completion of the farm-to-market road (FMR) project implemented by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).

Citing a report from DPWH Region 9 Director Cayamombao D. Dia, DPWH Secretary Mark A. Villar said that the road rehabilitation project includes the concreting of once dusty and bumpy one (1) lane road with a length of 1.781 kilometer into a two (2) lane concrete paved carriageway.

“Barangay Bulawan farm-to-market road now facilitates faster mobility of goods which minimized spoilage and post-harvest loses of farm products and improved the economical status of Barangay Bulawan, Payao, Zamboanga Sibugay,” said Secretary Villar.

A total of P11.75 million was allotted to complete the FMR project which reduced travel time from Barangay Bulawan to Payao Public Market from 1 hour and 30 minutes to only 25 minutes, cutting transportation cost and vehicle maintenance of residents in the area.

The project was implemented by DPWH – Zamboanga Sibugay 1st District Engineering Office, in convergence with the Department of Agriculture.
