A total of Php64,186,000 were spent on road project to improve the deteriorated section of the Daang Maharlika Highway (Agusan- Davao Road) in Patin-ay, Agusan del Sur.

The Department of Public Works and Highways – Regional Office XIII (DPWH- RO 13) has allocated the budget amount under the maintenance program for its calendar year 2014 to preserve a smoother and faster transport in the area.

“This road section badly needed attention for road maintenance and preservation of the existing concrete pavement. DPWH allocated funding to immediately materialize an asphalt overlay project,” said DPWH- RO 13 Regional Director Danila E. Versola.

The road project that started on May 15 this year covered a total of 6.290 km of asphalt overlay. On August 08, DPWH declared the completion of the project upon fully overlaying the whole stretch.

According to him, DPWH creates quality road networks and maintains it for better transportation in which also increases the socio-economic activities. However maintenance of the national road is only a task assigned to the department, but, to every road user.

As the area is observed to be the arterial transport route of haulers and trucks loaded with logs, Director Versola appealed to operators of logging business to follow rules and regulations when transporting their cargos.

“Overloading has been since a perennial problem in this part of the region and the consequences has cost the department a lot in infrastructure,” he said.
