P20-M Access Road in Allacapan, Cagayan Boosts Local Pasalubong Industry
A newly-concreted access road leading to the food processing areas in Allacapan, Cagayan has been completed by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) in support of furthering the export of quality “pasalubong” products from the town.
The DPWH Cagayan 2nd District Engineering Office (DEO) completed the P20-million upgrading to concrete of the 1.02 kilometers road with provision of canal structures and sidewalk facilities.
Based on reports from DPWH Regional Office 2 Director Loreta M. Malaluan and Cagayan 2nd DEO District Engineer Oscar G. Gumiran, Secretary Mark A. Villar said that the improved road has been connecting the barangays of Labben, Bessang, Capagaran, Mapurao, and Utan to the Junction Manila North Road.
The connection allows for faster and safer transport of products such as coco jams, banana chips, buko pies, and vinegar to markets across Cagayan, unlike before when both farmers and owners of micro, small, and medium enterprises were forced to endure a bumpy road to distribute their crops and goods.
The enhancement of the access road, aside from strengthening Allacapan’s municipal economy, also provides better accessibility from the town to schools, hospitals, and other basic social services available in nearby urban areas, added Secretary Villar.
