In an effort to protect lives and properties from the threat of flash floods during rainy season, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is undertaking river control structures in Zamboanga Sibugay.
DPWH Secretary Mark A. Villar said that the DPWH Zamboanga Sibugay 2nd District Engineering Office (DEO) is fast tracking the construction of three (3) revetment along Bauayan River in the low-lying areas in the town of Ipil.
On-going flood-control projects include the construction of the 593-linear meter flood control structure Phase 1 costing P42-million which is now 61 percent completed; 562.61-linear meter structure along the downstream of the river costing P44-million which is now 79 percent completed; and the P43-million structure along the river’s upstream spanning 828 linear meters and is now 60 percent completed.
All flood mitigation structures along Bauayan River will be constructed with steel sheet piles, rubble concrete, coping structural concrete and selected borrow for toppings.
“Once fully completed, the river control projects can prevent the river banks from scouring, protecting the communities and preventing destruction of crops and other livelihood in the area,” said Secretary Villar.
