The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has enabled better access between local farms and market centers in Guimaras by completing three (3) road concreting projects in various towns of the province.
Secretary Mark A. Villar identified newly-paved farm-to-market roads (FMR) as the P9.45-million FMR in Barangay Alaguisoc, Jordan; P9.31-million FMR in Barangay Alegria, Sibunag; and P9.45-million FMR in Barangays San Roque, Nueva Valencia.
A total of 1.74 kilometer of roads are now paved for better connectivity in the island province since the completion of the 627 lineal meters in Brgy. Alaguisoc, 562 lineal meters in Brgy. Alegria, and 548 lineal meters in Brgy. San Roque all completed in May 2021.
Secretary Villar, citing reports from DPWH Regional Office 6 Director Lea N. Delfinado and Guimaras District Engineer Rhodora B. Nuñal, said that all the projects have provisions reflectorized thermoplastic pavement marking and a concrete slope protection for the Brgy. Alaguisog FMR.
“These enhanced roads significantly benefit the residents of the province by making it possible to easily transport agricultural products to trading centers and market places at a lower cost and reduced time,” said Secretary Villar.
He added that the concreted roads can also facilitate faster delivery of health and social services even to the remote barangays of Guimaras.
