Various tourist destinations and recreational sites in the province of Guimaras have become more accessible to locals and foreigners since the Department of Public Works and Highway (DPWH) completed the road widening along portion of Guimaras Central Road in the town of San Lorenzo.
Secretary Roger G. Mercado commended the DPWH Guimaras District Engineer Office (DEO) for successfully completing the ₱42.27 million improvement of road with a length of 1 kilometer.
Based on reports from DPWH Regional Director Tiburcio DL. Canlas and DPWH Guimaras District Engineer Rhodora B. Nuñal, the previously two (2)-lane portion of the road in San Lorenzo now has two (2) more additional lanes allowing faster, safer, and easier travel in the area.
Aside from paving the additional 6.7-meter lane, the road widening project also covers the construction of grouted riprap; stone masonry, curb and gutter; provision of reflectorized thermoplastic pavement markings; and, ditch canals.
Secretary Mercado pointed out that easing the drive to San Lorenzo’s tourist spots, such as the San Lorenzo Wind Farm and Reyley Farm, through this road widening effort by DPWH coincides perfectly with the revival of tourism in the country.
He added that the newly-improved road section could also make the transport of goods and services in the province more efficient by catering to larger volumes of vehicles including 10-wheeler trucks hauling goods from the Jordan Roll-on, Roll-off (Ro-Ro) Port.
“DPWH plans to conduct more widening and other improvement initiatives along the whole stretch of the Guimaras Central Road as well as the Guimaras Circumferential Road in order to provide better transportation network in the island province so we can help the province translate its potential into actual socio-economic growth,” Secretary Mercado said.
