The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has recently completed the improvement of a 1.46-kilometer road in Cabanatuan City, Nueva Ecija that now facilitates better access to local farmlands and an army base in the neighboring town of Santa Rosa.

According to DPWH Secretary Roger G. Mercado, the newly-asphalted portion of the Bangad-Fort Magsaysay Road in Barangay Kalikid Sur is part of the asset preservation and preventive maintenance program of the DPWH Nueva Ecija 2nd District Engineering Office (DEO) for 2022.

Secretary Mercado, citing a report from DPWH Nueva Ecija 2nd District Engineer Elpidio Y. Trinidad, said that the road project was undertaken to support a more developed agricultural economy by restoring the road that is used by local farmers in delivering products to market centers in the city.

As one of the roads that directly leads to Fort Magsaysay, which is the Philippines’ largest military reservation and one of the key training areas for the army, a more convenient and safer travel can now also be experienced for vehicles coming and going to the base.

This greatly benefit the visiting family members of military men and women stationed and conducting training in the fort, Secretary Mercado added.

Completed in March 2022, the P16.02-Million road project was accomplished one (1) month ahead of its scheduled completion date.
