DPWH Proposes Slope Protection in Landslide-Prone Area

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) plans to include a slope protection component along the ongoing access road project leading to Ulan-Ulan Falls in Barangay Sampao, municipality of Almeria, province of Biliran.

According to his report to DPWH Secretary Roger G. Mercado , DPWH Region 8 Director Allan S. Borromeo said that the road is frequently affected by landslides, causing soil and rock materials to obstruct traffic and endanger both pedestrians and motorists.

A portion of the access road was recently closed due to landslide and rockslide.

Director Borromeo said that a slope protection structure will prevent landslides from recurring during the rainy season to ensure continuous accessibility, safety of motorists, and avoid further travel inconvenience.

“With the ongoing construction and improvement of the access road, the slope protection structure would safeguard local farmers and travelers who go up the mountain to tend to their agricultural lands or to visit nearby tourist spots,” said Director Borromeo.

The construction and improvement of the access road is implemented under a multi-year program.
